The global shift toward renewable energy is increasing demand for technologies that can support a more flexible and resilient energy system. Batteries are increasingly important to this transition, creating opportunities to develop more integrated value chains while raising questions around supply security, investment, industrial development and environmental and social impacts.
Indonesia is well positioned to participate in this emerging value chain, given its resource base and growing role in the global battery ecosystem. The Supply Chain Integration of Battery Value Chain for Energy Transition study, developed by the Southeast Asia Energy Transition Partnership (ETP) with Hartree Consultores and in partnership with the Ministry of Investment and Downstream Industry (BKPM), examined the opportunities and constraints for strengthening Indonesia’s battery value chain and its role in the broader energy transition.
The Kolibri team supported ETP in developing the study, leading the environmental and social impact assessment workstream and coordinating stakeholder engagement across government, industry players, investors and other relevant stakeholders. The team also supported other workstreams and deliverables, contextualising the research within the region’s broader policy, institutional and market landscape.
